Sunsetting an app is a strange kind of failure. Nobody got hurt, no money changed hands that shouldn’t have, and in both these cases the thing itself still works exactly as designed. It just stops being worth the upkeep — the hosting bill, the OS update that breaks something small, the hour a month that’s better spent on Bobara now. That’s a harder decision than it sounds, because it means admitting something you built and were proud of has reached the end of its useful life, on your own say-so, with nobody asking you to make that call.

I don’t think that makes them failures. Every app is a lesson learned, even when they die, and both of these taught me something I still use.
